Well, the poem that I just posted, which probably appears below this one, is screwed up.
The words are there, and the line breaks, but the spacing is ALL wrong. If I ever figure out how to fix it, I'll repost it.

give the "pre" tag a shot. In your post just before the poem use that tag. Using it will preserve line breaks and spacing exactly as you input it (don't trust it to preserve tabs though. It might or might not, but I know it preserves spaces). Don't forget to close the tag if you post text afterwards or the line wrap will get all messed up as the page will preserve a long line without breaking it.
